Informative Essay

This guide is intended for students who are exploring a subject with the goal to explain it to others.

Searching the DVC Library

Using OneSearch

OneSearch is the DVC Library's search function that allows you to search all of the information resources in the library at once. Unlike the open web where information is often available for free, the DVC Library pays for the information contained in its collection.

You have access to this information as students of DVC which is why you need to log in with your Insite information to access resources in the library.

This video below demonstrates how to search for information in the DVC Library using OneSearch.

Searching The New York Times

The New York Times is an established news source that has both hard-copy and digital versions. However the online version of the newspaper requires a subscription in order to read more than 4 articles per month.

As a student of DVC, you have access to a New York Times digital subscription.

To set up your account, visit the NYT Academic portal  (Links to an external site.)and sign up using your DVC campus email address and password to create your account.

This video below will show you how to search for information on a specific topic using New York Times online.
