Library Borrowing

Student ID Cards

To obtain a student ID, bring proof of registration for the current semester plus an official photo identification such as a California's driver's license to the Circulation and Reserve Desk or the Student Life Office. If you would like a color photo, you can buy your ID card in the Student life office for a fee (this includes an ASDVC membership).

Overdue Fines

Books (non reserve books) and audio books: $0.25 per day

Reserve books (3 hour checkout): $0.50 per hour

Reserve books (1 day + checkout): $0.50 per day

  • Most Reserve Materials can be checked out for three hours and do not leave the library. Be attentive; we need to keep reserve materials available, especially before exams, project deadlines, etc. Bring overdue materials to the Circulation and Reserve Desk and pay overdue charges.
  • Report lost materials immediately and pay for lost and damaged materials at the Circulation and Reserve Desk. Transcripts and registration privileges will be withheld pending clearance of Library obligations.

Checkouts and Returns

Use your DVC Connect Card/ DVC Student ID Card (or your 7-digit student number and another form of photo ID) to check out materials.  You may borrow up to 20 books with a maximum of 5 books at a time on any one subject.

Circulating books may be checked out for three weeks; reference books, Special Collections and DVC Archives may only be used in the Library.

Books from CCC or LMC

Books that are not available at DVC might be available from the libraries at Contra Costa College or Los Medanos College. For information about requesting a book to be sent to DVC, see the video below (if you do not have speakers or headphones, turn on closed captioning).

You may also go to either of those libraries and check out circulating books using your DVC Connect Card. You may then return those books at your home campus library and the staff will send them to their proper library home. Please note that this return service is only available for books from the CCC, DVC and LMC libraries.

Holds and Renewals

Books for which there are no "holds" may be renewed a maximum of two times, each renewal for a two week period. Books may be renewed through the library online catalog using Renew Books Online or by telephone (925-969-2610) The renewal request must be made on or before the due date.
